Scotland's contribution to the UK economy

The exact amount is difficult to determine, but the union drains wealth from Scotland. In terms of wealth per head, the Scottish central belt generates as much wealth as London and the South. Scotland’s north east is one of the best performing economic areas in the UK.  But the south east and west of England has the greatest concentration of wealthy households.

Scotland challenges inequality, while UK falls behind

It is evident that inequalities and uneven levels of deprivation across the UK continue to be a significant problem. However, it is also clear that Scotland is continually challenging these inequalities and the Scottish Government is working to ensure that levels of GDP per head in Scotland match the average of EU countries

Investment in Scotland: A Common Weal Approach
