How will borders with England be determined?

The borders will be determined by agreement with England initially.  There remains a hard border between Scotland and the EU.  If Scotland were to join the EU, there will be a hard border between Scotland and England, although it to be hoped there will be an agreement as with Ireland for free movement of people between the countries.

The meaning of Scottish independence for England

Certainly it will diminish the international standing of England.  There are risks for both countries.  Emotionally, the shock would be profound.  For Northern Ireland, a UK shorn of Scotland would hardly make continued adherence to the union more attractive.  It is suggested that Scotland generates 10% of UK income with 7% of the population.

The UK’s Brexit mismanagement, Open Minds on Independence #11

There were a number of  mistakes made in negotiating a Brexit arrangement.
This was imposed on Scotland against its will. It has turned out to be a disaster for key industries.

1. Ignoring the wishes of Scotland and the other devolved nations

2. Sticking so rigidly to “getting Brexit done” that it made an acceptable trade deal impossible. It was immediately apparent there were serious problems.

3. Underestimating just how big a problem taking Northern Ireland out of the EU would be.
